Article Inc., the company that operates Circular Yokohama, is working together with the City of Yokohama as a collaborative partner to promote the formation of a “Yokohama-style circular society in the clothing sector,” with the goal of encouraging residents to take further steps toward decarbonization. The design for the staff uniforms for the City of Yokohama’s exhibition “Information Hub Utilizing Building Spaces” at GREEN×EXPO 2027—which incorporate clothing collected from residents as part of their raw materials—has now been finalized.
1. Uniform Design
Since December 2025, the project has been collecting unwanted clothing from residents and repurposing it as part of the raw materials for the staff uniforms for the City of Yokohama’s exhibition “Information Hub Utilizing Building Spaces” at GREEN×EXPO 2027. The design for these uniforms has now been finalized. The design was handled by Ryohin Keikaku Co., Ltd.
① Venue Operations Staff
Inspired by the natural curves of plants, this design prioritizes ease of movement and convenient access to pockets and storage. A vivid blue symbolic of Yokohama has been adopted, with color choices emphasizing high visibility so that staff can be identified at a glance.
② Internal Staff
Prioritizing ease of movement, this design takes a minimal approach by stripping away decorative elements such as collars and pocket flaps.
③ T-Shirt
Adopting the colors of the City of Yokohama’s logo “OPEN YOKOHAMA,” this iconic design features intersecting streamlines that express the coexistence and circulation of nature, people, and things.
2. “Clothes That Return to Their Materials” — Designed with Resource Circulation in Mind
In addition to incorporating clothing collected from residents, the staff uniforms adopt an “easy-to-recycle design” approach—using a single material to facilitate recycling—thereby realizing “clothes that return to their materials” with resource circulation in mind.
The easy-to-recycle design is a project undertaken by Ryohin Keikaku Co., Ltd., the firm responsible for the uniform design, in collaboration with Teijin Frontier Co., Ltd., and has also been incorporated into products sold at MUJI, the retail brand operated by Ryohin Keikaku. These uniforms are made from a single material—recycled polyester—making them easier to reprocess and advancing the promotion of resource circulation in the clothing sector.
3. Project Timeline and Future Schedule
- March 2026: Announcement of uniform production ※ Production handled by Ryohin Keikaku
- August 2026: Uniform design finalized (this announcement)
- January 2027 (planned): Uniform delivery
- March 2027: GREEN×EXPO 2027 opens
About the Collaborative Project Aimed at Forming a “Yokohama-Style Circular Society in the Clothing Sector”
The clothing industry continues to follow a pattern of mass production, mass consumption, and mass disposal, generating enormous environmental burdens across the entire supply chain—from raw material procurement and manufacturing to transportation and disposal. In response, the City of Yokohama has chosen “clothing”—an essential part of daily life—as the theme for resource circulation, and is working with Article Inc., selected as a collaborative partner under the Civic Collaboration Ordinance, to pursue a collaborative project (※) aimed at forming a “Yokohama-style circular society in the clothing sector” that encourages residents to take further steps toward decarbonization.

About the City of Yokohama’s Exhibition “Information Hub Utilizing Building Spaces” at GREEN×EXPO 2027
The City of Yokohama’s exhibition “Information Hub Utilizing Building Spaces” is built around the concept of 【Opening Tomorrow’s World Together. Circular City YOKOHAMA】. Together with residents and businesses who are taking on challenges for the future, the exhibition will communicate Yokohama’s vision of a circular future city and lifestyle through two zones: the “Lifestyle Zone” and the “Future Zone.” The uniforms being produced will be worn by staff at this exhibition hub.
