The Repair Cafe screened at TBS SDGs event “Plaza to Make the Earth Smile”
- On 2025/6/3
Circular Yokohama and our sister media IDEAS FOR GOOD screened its documentary The Repair Cafe on May 4 at the SDGs event “Plaza to Make the Earth Smile” held at TBS Akasaka Sacas Square.
“Plaza to Make the Earth Smile” is part of TBS’s “WEEK to Make the Earth Smile” project, a related initiative designed to provide opportunities for visitors to experience and learn about the SDGs in a fun and engaging way.
The Repair Cafe is our first documentary film produced by the creative team behind IDEAS FOR GOOD. The film features the concept of the Repair Café, an initiative originating in the Netherlands where volunteers in local communities offer free repairs for broken appliances, clothing, bicycles, and other items that typical shops will not accept. The creative team traveled to the Netherlands to capture scenes of local citizens bringing in broken items and collaborating with volunteers to repair them. The documentary goes beyond simple repairs, highlighting the human connections that the Repair Café fosters.
On the day of the event, the screening took place in the classroom set used for the TBS drama “Mikami Sensei,” which aired until March. Fans of the drama, general attendees, and many student volunteers from the event enjoyed the screening.
After the film, members of the Circular Yokohama provided a commentary on the documentary, and cross-talk sessions were held with other event exhibitors. Attendees also had the opportunity to share their impressions of the film and discuss what each of us can do in our daily lives to help “make the Earth smile.”
Circular Yokohama will continue to share information related to sustainable future.
