To comprehensively advance its environmental policies, the City of Yokohama has been formulating its Environmental Management Plan based on the “Basic Ordinance on the Conservation and Creation of the Yokohama Environment.” Following the conclusion of the previous plan’s term, the city announced on July 29, 2026, the adoption of a new “Yokohama Environmental Management Plan” covering the period through fiscal year 2040.
The new plan sets out a vision of “a city where people can live comfortably and authentically in harmony with nature,” approached through four global environmental perspectives: “carbon neutrality,” “nature positivity,” “circular economy,” and the “human development” that underpins them all. Four policy directions for realizing this vision are also outlined.
