Minato Mirai Circular City Project: Co-creating a Decarbonized Future in Yokohama
- On 2025/11/7
In the heart of Yokohama, a bold experiment is underway, transforming the Minato Mirai 21 district into a model of circular living and decarbonization.
The Minato Mirai Circular City Project (MMCC) brings together over 30 facilities, companies, organizations, and citizens to reimagine how an urban district can reach net-zero COs emissions by 2030. Operated by the City of Yokohama and the Yokohama SDGs Design Center, MMCC visualizes waste and resource flows across buildings, finding creative ways to reuse materials and cut emissions.
From upcycling workshops that turn coffee grounds into art to the annual Minato Mirai Circular Weekend, where people of all ages experience circularity through play, the project embodies Yokohama’s spirit of collaboration and creativity.
Together, Yokohama is showing how collaboration and creativity can transform an urban district.
